ME Time – April 12

Me Time became We Time on April 12 as I dedicated the practice to the people and players of the Humboldt Broncos in the wake of the tragic bus crash on April 6 that claimed 16 lives and sent at least another 12 people to hospital.

At times like this, we re-discover our human connection. People care. Day to day we tend to get wrapped up in our individual lives but as I walked around my neighborhood Wednesday night, noticing numerous houses displaying green and gold ribbon hockey sticks on their doorsteps, my heart warmed.

A GoFundMe page starting with a goal of raising $100 000 to support the victims of the tragedy now stands at over 10 million. The donations continue to flow.

The day of our meditation practice the plus 15 was decorated with a variety of people wearing team jerseys to show their sympathy and concern for the people affected by the accident.

We are all Humboldt Broncos. We feel the loss. Every heart is affected.

Thursdays meditation practice focused on deeply connecting with our own bodies and being grateful for the miracle of physical form. The young Bronco players thrived on the exhilaration of movement, pushing the edges of human performance. We can learn from their example. We still have the opportunity to enjoy the sensations of life. Often our minds are not paying attention to what’s present now. We are distracted by our phone, social media or thinking about our grocery list. Let’s not take the pleasures of physical experience for granted. It’s gone all too soon.

Likewise, are there people you want to spend time with, dreams you want to realize, experiences you want to have? Live today. Make each moment count as a building block in the life you want to live. The time is now. Appreciate the gift of the present.

The next session is Thursday, April 26 12:15 – 12:45 pm in Room 13014.
